Joe Dante, director of Gremlins and The Howling, is back with another horror/comedy hybrid, a genre for which he is a master at. Entitled “Burying the Ex”, the movie is set to star Anton Yelchin (Fright Night remake, Star Trek reboot’s Chekov), Ashley Greene (Twilight films, The Apparition) and Alexandra Daddario (Texas Chainsaw 3D, Percy Jackson series). When young couple Max (Yelchin) and Evelyn (Greene) move in together, things go south quickly as Evelyn turns out to be manipulative and controlling. Before Max can attempt to pry himself loose, a freak accident takes Evelyn out of the picture. As Max looks to move on with Olivia (Daddario), it seems an undead Evelyn is not quite ready to give up on her relationship.
Written by Alan Trezza, based on his 2008 short, and produced by Voltage Pictures, Burying the Ex looks to serve as a welcome addition to Joe Dante’s resume. In addition to Gremlins and The Howling, Dante, who hails from Morristown and Parsippany, NJ, also directed Piranha, Innerspace, Matinee, Looney Tunes: Back in Action and his unconventional, yet brilliant sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, whose lack of success compared to its original may have slowed down Dante’s career, but never curtailed his creativity. This will be his first feature since 2009’s underrated 3D kids horror film, The Hole. If you haven’t yet seen these movies, they are all more than worth checking out.
Ashley Greene Alexandra Daddario
The cast, though young, has certainly built up a strong list of genre credits, and it will be especially entertaining to see the stunning Ashley Greene and gorgeous Alexandra Daddario play off each other. As originally reported by The Wrap, the movie was already set to start filming on Monday (Nov. 18), so, hopefully we’ll get to see the end result of what looks to be a very promising film before year’s end.
