Burying the Ex is a movie The Gore 4 has had its bloody eye on for awhile (see Joe Dante Digs Up New Horror Comedy) for a number of reasons. First off, it’s directed by one of our favorite directors, Joe Dante. He’s the man behind such classics as Pirahna, The Howling, Gremlins 1 & 2, Matinee and Innerspace, to name a few. He is one of the masters of bringing horror and humor together, which will serve the plot of a dead ex-girlfriend returning to wreak havoc on her former’s current relationship quite well. He also hails from Morristown, NJ, one of the Gore 4’s haunts.
Second, the movie brings together two gorgeous and talented actresses known to genre audiences for a variety of roles. Alexandra Daddario, who plays the current, living girlfriend, was seen in Texas Chainsaw 3D, as well as the Percy Jackson films, and the first season of HBO’s True Detective. And Ashley Greene, who plays the ‘Ex’, is best known for her role as Alice Cullen in the Twilight films, along with the ghostly tale, The Apparition. They both play opposite Anton Yelchin, Chekov in the latest Star Trek films, and the Fright Night remake. Definitely plenty of genre cred to go around.

So, when can we expect to see this potential sleeper? Well, it’s already been shown at the Venice International Film Festival during the latter part of last year. Since then, Image Entertainment has bought the rights to release the film, and it’s expected to do so sometime this summer, on demand and in a limited theatrical release too. We’ll keep a look out for any word on a specific release date.
[Looks like the film is currently eyeing a June 19th release date in the U.S. (updated 5/30/15)]
