Now that Spring is finally here, it means that Summer is right around the corner. And that gets us thinking of baseball, going down the shore (as we say here New Jersey), Kohr’s ice cream, and, of course, sharks. This summer marks the 100th anniversary of the horrific attacks along the Jersey Shore that resulted in four deaths, in what remains the worst shark killing spree in history, and served as inspiration for one of the greatest movies of all-time, Jaws. So what better way to commemorate this event than a new killer shark movie, entitled, The Shallows.
The movie stars Blake Lively, who plays a woman surfing alone on a secluded beach, when she is attacked by a great white shark. Finding herself stranded on a rocky outcrop only a short distance from shore, she must use her stamina and wits to survive. It’s the ultimate wo-man vs. nature story, and as opposed to horror’s frequent ‘final girl’ trope, guess you can call this one, the ‘only girl.’ Check out the intense trailer here:
The Shallows was written by Anthony Jaswinsky and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It was shot last fall in New South Wales, Australia, and is being released by Columbia Pictures on June 24th. The Gore 4 can’t wait!
